My fish Caesar died on Sunday. I had him for 6 ½ years. I’m kind of sad. He was a good fish.

I decided to measure him since people often doubted me when I said that I had a “huge” fish.

Currently his body is in my freezer as funeral arrangements are presently being made.

Not So Good News, What's Been Going On / 1 Comment

Although I just posted about how I’ve been dating this girl named AC and she might start showing up on here more, I’m actually going to have to retract that statement.
I say this because I got a call from AC the other day telling me she didn’t want to date me anymore.

No worries though. I knew this was coming. I could tell she was struggling with our relationship two weeks ago, and to be honest so was I.

Basically to sum things up from my perspective; AC is the type of girl who runs away if you bring her in to close. I brought this up when she told me she wasn’t happy with how distant I was keeping her. Even though I thought it might be a bad idea, she assured me that things would be fine. So I made more of an effort to have a relationship with her. Obviously, she realized that wasn’t what she wanted.

So while it sucks, all is well. I think this is something we both wanted. I know I was fighting things with her because the relationship felt like the one Heather and I had (before the whole calling off the wedding thing, of course). In other words, it was just too comfortable. Clearly something I am not ready for at this point in my life.

The Breakup

Last Friday was my work girlfriend’s* last day at work…

She decided to take a position with a capital management company. It was a wonderful opportunity for her and I’m pretty sure she got a nice raise.

However, by definition since she no longer works with me, she and I can no longer be in a work relationship.

While I know this doesn’t really sound like a big deal because I know people switch jobs all the time. But think about it this way. Suddenly one of my best friends, whom I’ve talked to every day for months suddenly isn’t there. No more walking over to her desk when I need to take a much needed break and seeing her smiling face. No more getting my chops busted from the guys in my department for always having a pretty girl hanging around. No more sharing CDs. No more random fun interoffice mail. No more phone calls just to say hello.

And sadly, no more work girlfriend.

*Note in case you missed this in the past: Work Girlfriend is defined as a colleague — your lunchmate, IM partner, email buddy, etc. Nonromantic, purely platonic.

Sicker Than Sick

Yesterday I started feeling kind of rough at work. It wasn’t a big deal, just more of a stomachache. Then as the night progressed, I started to feel worse and worse.

I assume that since I started having cold shakes and ridiculous hot sweats that I was running a fever. Not long after that, the whole getting sick thing started and continued throughout the night.

Around 2:00 this morning I woke up and really wanted some water. Although I was feeling terrible I decided to venture downstairs. As I made my way into the kitchen, I started getting really dizzy. About the time I got to the refrigerator I was having a really hard time standing up. While I’m not really sure what happened after that I know I was able to pour a glass of water before I dropped the pitcher and collapsed on the floor.

Luckily, I was able to crawl into the bathroom before getting sick again. Also, you’ll be happy to know that while I spilled the pitcher of water all over my kitchen floor, I managed to keep all the water in my glass.

That’s what I call skills!

And The Walls Started To Fall

Good Ideas, Not So Good News, Realization, Recap, What's Been Going On / 1 Comment

To say that I’ve put some walls up about the idea of getting close enough to a lady friend to have something of a relationship would probably be diving a little too deep into my psyche for this website. However since it is something that’s going on in my life, why not share a little bit?

Just to give you a little background, here’s some info I’ve never put on here before:

  • I’ve “casually” been dating this girl from work since January.
  • In that 5 months we “casually” dated, we went out roughly 7-8 times.
  • We always seemed to have a really good time together.
  • I purposely didn’t pursue like I should have for two reasons
    • I saw her several times a day at work and the potential for that situation to blow up in my face somewhat scared me
    • I’ve been reluctant to the idea of being in a relationship right now (see this post if you’re new) and therefore took things VERY slowly with her.

Then roughly two months ago, she told me that she was entertaining the idea of moving back to Alabama. I didn’t think too much of it, but I kind of started to put more of an effort into spending time with her. I know that I probably did this because I did like hanging out with her and I honestly knew that nothing would ever come out of any type of relationship we built.

Sadly, right before she moved away, I think we both kind of came to the realization that we had really started to like each other.

While this does in fact suck, there are some positives things about this situation. I very much enjoyed all the time that she and I spent together. And I saw what it was like to let some of the walls down. Surprisingly, it’s not so bad; and although I don’t want to admit it, I think I might be open to keeping them down for awhile and seeing where it takes me.

Wish me luck!

Poor MTSU Basketball

Last night MTSU played Western Kentucky in the final round of the Sun Belt conference tournament. For those of you who don’t know, it was kind of a big deal. For one, Western Kentucky is one of MTSU’s biggest rivals, and two, the winner of that game got an automatic ticket the NCAA tournament, aka “The Big Dance”.

I was stoked!

Since I only get roughly 15 channels, and ESPN2 isn’t one of them, my friend Amy and I went to Jonathan’s to watch the game.

Even though I pulled hard for them to win, at the end of the day MTSU sucks and they ended up losing 57 - 67.

It was quite upsetting and already I can feel my March Madness subsiding before it really even began.

Maybe It’s Me

Gheez, Not So Good News / 2 Comments

Yesterday morning was kind of dreary. There was a light rain falling as I was driving to work, and sure enough, since it was Monday, there was quite a lot of traffic. In case you’ve never driven in rush hour traffic in Nashville, the important thing for you to know is that Nashvillians freak out when it rains and loose any and all ability to drive like normal human beings.

Sure enough as I was entering the on ramp to I440 from I65 the person in front of obviously wasn’t paying attention and had to slam on their brakes really hard. This in turn caused me to have to slam on my breaks really hard. Unfortunately, the girl behind me missed the the memo that we were all slamming on our breaks really hard and decided to slam into me instead.

Normally this really wouldn’t have been that bad because, Normally, I would have been driving Purp McGurt, my purple sunfire that has 180,000+ miles and has seen better days in the looks department. However, since very few things normal ever happen to me, it turns out that I was driving my new Montero Sport that I had literally just made the first payment on that day. The reason I wasn’t driving the purple car is because my friend Manish actually wrecked his car last week and his insurance doesn’t cover rental cars. Since I’m a “balla” and have two cars, I decided I’d help him out.

Looking on the bright side, the woman had insurance and they’re taking care of me. Plus I didn’t get hurt like last time so I’m sure all will be well.

People Falling Apart

Oddly enough, the same day that I found out that work was going to pay for my school, I was sharing this wonderful news with this guy who works with me and in mid conversation he casually says, “EHhhh, I’m having chest pains”.

Just to A little background on this guy, he’s an older gentleman, a couple years from retirement, overweight, diabetic, and has had a heart attack within the last five years. So when he says he’s having chest pains, it’s kind of a big deal. So immediately my boss and I persuaded him to go see doctor right away.

Sure enough, an hour or two later we get a call from him saying his doctor checked him into the hospital for a couple of days because they need to run some tests*.

Then later that day my step-mom calls me and tells me my little brother, Gates, broke his hip playing baseball. Without going into all the detail; but because he had such a huge growth spurt this year he essentially grew so much that his bones hadn’t caught up.

Poor kid, he’s such a giant.

*UPDATE: The guy at work didn’t have another heart attack and should be returning to work soon.
