I Like Going To Weddings

Last week my friend Ashlee invited me to be her date for her cousin’s wedding this past Saturday. Originally the wedding was planned to be outside. However, since it rained a little in Nashville this weekend they had to go to Plan B, which was to have the wedding in the large tent that was going to be used for the reception.

As the rain continued to poor down, the tent soon became flooded and they decided to have the wedding in the clubhouse of the community where they were having the wedding. About 30 minutes after the scheduled start of the wedding, it was announced that the preacher had been delayed due to the flooding and wasn’t sure when he was going to be there. It was then decided to start serving guests drinks while we all waited. About thirty more minutes passed and another announcement was made. This time most of the plans had been abandoned and the bride and groom decided to just roll with it. The bride came out and walked down the aisle, a small prayer was said, and the bride and groom started mingling with the guest as appetizers were served.

Another thirty minutes passed and the preacher still wasn’t there. It was at this point that guests were asked to be seated at the dinner tables and salads and drinks were served. But then, just as dinner was about to be served, the preacher showed up! The wedding party quickly shuffled out of the reception area. The preacher came in and stood in the middle of the dance floor and the wedding party walked back in. They had just decided to get married right there on the dance floor while everyone was seated at the dinner tables.

Honestly it was the best wedding I have ever been too.

It’s probably because I was almost married once, but I’m a little jaded when it comes to the conventions you’re supposed to follow when getting married. I really like the idea of playing it by ear a little and mixing it up. In the end it’s ultimately supposed to be about the bride and groom*.

Also, it should be noted, when I do get married, I’m not having a unity candle. I understand the symbolism of it, but I think it’s stupid.
