About a month ago I was having some really bad acne breakouts. Since I’m 25, have good health insurance, and was fed up with it, I went to see a dermatologist. He gave me a prescription for some antibiotics, warned me of the dangers of sun exposure while taking them, and told me to come back in a month if I didn’t see a change.
A month went by and I still didn’t have the great skin that I was expecting. So I went back to visit the dermatologist again, and this time he basically told me to be patient because the medicine was working and to quit my whining. Also, he gave me a prescription for another medicine that oddly enough can be used to treat malaria. Also, thanks to wikipedia, I know that it can come in pill form as well as a vaginal suppository.
I’m glad my doctor prescribed it to me in the form of a topical gel.

When I’m not pregnant, I also have crap skin. Unlike my brother, who got the good genes there. Boo Gavin.
Anyways, here’s my unsolicited advice: use Cetaphil wash and moisturizer, get a different kind of antibiotics (usually those work pretty fast…I’m surprised after a month it did nothing for you), and start taking allergy medicine if you don’t already (because it might actually not be acne). Also, you’re a dude, so you can probably “safely” take Accutane if you have cystic acne. I would save that as a last resort though because that stuff is no joke.
Or, you could go on the pill. A lot of people have good luck there.
