It’d Be Like Hitting A Jackpot

Yesterday when I pulled into work I saw in the cars heading the other direction, a man flossing his teeth and immediately behind him was a woman picking her nose. Both of which were things that I happen to just take note of. Had there been someone behind the woman picking her nose doing something crazy and/or odd, it would have totally completed the trifecta of wackiness.

I guess everyone’s got to have something to hope for.

Don’t Go And Buy It First

Kind of Cool / 1 Comment

I found this really awesome shirt on threadless.com:

I do realize that it’s actually kind of a weird shirt. I can’t explain why I like it so much, but I do. I think I could really rock the lion wearing glasses shirt.

Any thoughts?

So Much Chocolate

Every month our underwriters at work email out a monthly newsletter. The most interesting part of the newsletter is the section titled, “Just In Time Trivia”. The “Just In Time Trivia” section is just an oddball trivia question that if you respond to first with the correct answer they give you a nice prize. Last month it was a $100 gift certificate to Amazon.com.

The question this month was, “What is the Halloween capital of the U.S.” Since I was sitting at my computer when the newsletter came in I just punched that question into google and responded with Anoka, Minnesota. A couple of days later they responded and said congratulations you’ve won a $100 gift certificate to hersheygifts.com.

“Great” I thought, “what I am going to do with $100 worth of chocolate?”

Since hersheygifts.com is more for personalized gifts, I thought that maybe I could come up with something really funny. However, since you never know how HR is going to act about things like that, I decided to just order as much chocolate as I could.

A couple of days later 4 tins of chocolate cover pretzels, 1 tin of assorted chocolates, and 1 tin of dark chocolate cover cherry cordials arrived. I then went around to the various other departments that I often work with and spread the wealth as best I could.

My boss joked that I was being a suck up for taking one of the tins of chocolate covered pretzels to my great grand boss (my grand boss’ boss), but really I was just being nice. Howver, since he mentioned it, I’m sure it certainly didn’t hurt that I did that.

The Biggest Loser Round 2

Since I now seem to have a lot of time on my hands, and having recently gained 7 pounds on my vacation, it’s only natural that I decided to slim down a bit. On a whim I mentioned to my friend Derick that we should challenge each other to a biggest loser contest. This isn’t the first time that I’ve done the biggest loser challenge, see link, but Derick is going to be a must tougher competitor. Also, it helps that Derick and I are starting at the same weight and we’re wagering $10 a week. But just to give you an idea about what I’m up against, Derick sleeps only 4 hours a night, runs roughly 6 miles a day (I’m only at 3 right now) and then lifts weights. He’s a pit-bull I tell you!

Results of week 1:
Blake down 7.8 lbs. – Winner!
Derick down 6.6 lbs.

Hooray It’s Gone

Yesterday I got the mole on my head removed. Once the doctor came in, it took less than 5 minutes for them to give me a shot in the forehead, wait two minutes, slice it off, and give me a band-aid before sending me on my way. Unfortunately though, the dermatologist apparently stocked up on “pale guy” band-aids since winter is fast approaching. The white rectangle on my forehead sticks out like… a white rectangle on my head.

The weird thing is when you talk to people, you can tell their looking at it. At first I just came right out and just told them what happened, but now I’ve kind of been waiting for them to ask. It seems more fun that way.

A Visual Journey Of My Vacation

What's Been Going On / No Comments

Well I didn’t get married on October 6th. Heather and I did however go on what should have been our honeymoon. We just decided to call it a vacation instead… Yeah we’re weird.

With that said, please follow me on the visual journey that was my vacation.

Miami1.jpg
We left at 6:00 on Sunday morning and flew into Miami.

DaBoat1.jpg
Da Boat! Once on, we immediately started eating.

Tired1.jpg
All the traveling, plus the all the Valium I had to take on the plane to get down there, plus the motion sickness patch I had to wear on the boat left me pretty tired. Plus I was really full from eating so much.

Nassau1.jpg
Alas, when we woke up the next morning we were in Nassau!

Atlantis.jpg
So we decided to go to Atlantis which is the giant resort/casino that’s there.

Spikes.jpg
Once inside we saw crazy artwork made of spikes

SeaGlass.jpg
And sea glass in the shape of an orb

Ray.jpg
And we checked out their awesome aquarium.

sea.jpg
The next day was spent at sea, so we ate a lot.

formal.jpg
But that evening was formal night, so we got dressed up for dinner

swan.jpg
When we got back to our room, we were treated to a towel that was made to look like a swan.

StThomas.jpg
Thursday we were in St. Thomas

catamaran.jpg
Where we took a catamaran out and went snorkeling. Sorry there’s no underwater photos, but know that we saw lots of cool stuff.

St-Marteen1.jpg
Friday was St. Maarten!

St-Marteen2.jpg
Here’s the sign to prove it

St-Marteen3.jpg
We decided to just rent some chairs and lay on the beach most of the day.

St-Marteen4.jpg
Once we had soaked up all the sun we could handle, we walked around and shopped for t-shirts.

at sea.jpg
And that was it. The next couple of days were spent at sea as we made our way back to the United States.

party.jpg
But there was lots to do on the boat. Parties, bingo, shows, eating, etc.

feedme1.jpg
I don’t know if I mentioned that we ate a lot on this trip

feedme2.jpg
I seriously gained 7 pounds while we were gone!

The Last Couple of Days: A Recap

Posted by Blake.Roberson on October 03, 2007
Recap / 3 Comments

When I neglect to write about things, I often find it hard to go back and write about the funny/quirky parts of everyday life that happen to me. However, in these cases the best thing to do is to provide a general recap. I enjoy recounting my life, and you get the pleasure of reading about it. So without further ado; a recap of what’s been going on.

Friday: I spent a late evening with some rowdy friends. This included a lot of “more than I should haves”. For example I drank more than I should have, I sang more country songs louder than I should have, I danced with more loose women than I should have, and I puked along the interstate and at Kati’s mom’s house more than I should have.

Saturday: A terrible hangover from the night before left me utterly incapacitated, but it was worth it.

Sunday: I went fishing with my family.

Good times.

Monday: I worked and then ran 4 miles with Kati.

Tuesday: I worked and then was taken to dinner by the guy who writes our property insurance. We went to Ruth’s Chris Steak House and I ate a $37 ribeye.

Wednesday: I worked then went to P.F. Chang’s and ate dinner with my family.

So all in all the best way to summarize my recap is to quote my good friend Devin, “Man that’s like a sore peter… Hard to beat!”
