Why You Should Watch Flight of the Conchords

There is this show that comes on HBO immediately after Entourage called Flight of the Conchords. From what I’ve seen, although it’s OK to watch, it’s not really that great of a show. It’s basically just these two dumb guys from New Zealand who are in a band. The two guys, Brett and Jemaine, just go around doing normal everyday things and each episode is just a build up to the finale in which they have an odd music video and a wierd song about the events they’ve just been doing. For example, they sang a song about mermaids because a women’s water polo team had just charged a huge tab on their hotel bill (It’s a stretch I know).

While Flight of the Conchords is far from my favorite show, I must admit that the best part about watching it is that it makes you want to talk with a New Zealand accent. And as for how accents go, a New Zealand accent is up there on the easy to do list right next to a Southern accent. So it’s really a lot of fun.

It’s nothing like trying to talk with British accent, which just makes you look like an ass.

To Hot Even For Dragons

Dragon boat. Dragon boat. Dragon boat.

At 7:45 this morning I was at Riverfront Park setting up canopies and getting ready for Dragon boat racing. The next several hours were spent sweating, drinking lots of water, and of course Dragon boat racing.

The first race didn’t go so well. We got 3rd out of four teams. However the next two races we placed 1st and then second. But alas, we weren’t good enough to qualify for the final race and I got to go home a little earlier than I had planned. Since I was so ridiculously tired from the Dragon boat racing and the heat, I was happy to head home.

If asked to do Dragon boat racing next year, I think I’ll pass.

The Coffee Miracle

Kind of Cool / 2 Comments

For weeks now the coffee pot in my office has randomly been filling itself up to the brim. By filling itself up, I mean we’ll make a pot of coffee, drink several cups, and come back and it will be more full of coffee than it was when we first made it. This oddity of a malfunctioning coffee pot has cause quite a stir among a few people, including myself. No one seemed to understand how this was happening. The coffee pot is a simple machine; it shouldn’t just randomly fill itself up with more coffee.

Yesterday, right after another miracle of resurrecting coffee, we were all talking about it again and I just happened to say something about it to this guy who works here. He then replied nonchalantly, “Yeah it’s always full because I’ve been filling it up with water. I’ve just been doing it to mess with you guys.”

Once I processed what he said and all the pieces came together, I couldn’t stop laughing at the absurdity of it. He seriously has been messing with us for weeks and we had no idea.

That’s some serious commitment.

Sometimes The Fight Comes Looking For You

Last night Heather and I went to a wedding. After the reception we went to the Tin Roof in Cool Springs with some friends. As my buddy Derick and I were walking through the bar, I happen to make eye contact with some random dude. As we walked by I see him lean over and say to the person next him, “Look at these F!#kers”.

Now I realize we may have looked a little out of place since we had just come from a wedding and we still had our ties on but there was no need for this douche bag to call us “F!#ers”.

Needless to say, Derick, being the hot head that he is, was ready to rock. Luckily though the douche bag who called us “F!#kers” left a minute later and my first bar fight was narrowly avoided.

Then, roughly 30 minutes later, a belligerent drunk guy comes stumbling by and slams into the table Kati had just sat her drink on. Belligerent Drunk Guy stumbles backwards, beer bottles come crashing down to the floor, and Kati is left standing in the puddle that was only seconds ago her drink. Belligerent Drunk Guy stumbles around some more, hugs his friend, and then immediately gets kicked out.

Since Kati had just bought this drink that was now on the floor she went up to Belligerent Drunk Guy’s buddy and asked him to buy her another one. After all it is the polite thing to do if your friend just spills someones drink on the floor. After some time Belligerent Drunk Guy’s Buddy came around and bought Kati a new drink, but not before he hassled her a bit and called her a “lezbo”.

Had Kati not made everyone at the table swear to her that we wouldn’t say anything to Belligerent Drunk Guy’s Buddy when she was telling us what had happened, it would have SO been on like Donkey Kong.

A Quick Fun Fact About Me

Sometimes when I go out for dinner I to put my drink on my left side so I’m forced to use my left hand. Also occasionally at work, I make tic marks on reports with my left hand when I’m checking numbers.

While I realize that I’ll never be ambidextrous, it would be kind of neat if I was.

It’s So Early

Normally I wake up at 6:00 on weekdays. But today for some reason, I woke up this morning at 4:30, fairly refreshed, and I had a hole in my shirt.

I don’t know what I did, but that must have been some good sleeping.

Tedious Project

What's Been Going On / No Comments

Yesterday at work I started on the yearly project that just about killed me last year. I was new and hardly knew anything about insurance, much less how our systems really worked or how we did things. It was kind of a trial by fire. Now I’m happy to say that this year things are different. I’ve got a year of learning under my belt and I this project is coming smoothly. However, I did have to run 51 reports yesterday to get the information I needed for page 1 of the project (3 reports for each year for the past 17 years). The sad part is; that’s only the beginning.

Relaxing And Maxing: A Recap of The Weekend

The highlight of Friday was that I bought two new pair of work pants. I needed them and it was tax free weekend. Also that night Heather was wanting Italian food and I didn’t want to spend a lot of money, so I took her to Sbarro’s.

Saturday, Heather and I went canoeing on the Duck River in Columbia. Although it was hot as balls outside, it wasn’t really that bad on the river. There was a nice breeze and the water was was really refreshing. Also, we almost ran over what we thought was a beaver with our canoe. It wasn’t until we were literally right next to it did we realize that it was a muskrat.

Was It Worth An Extra $120

Just to update you about our passports. Heather and I applied for them on July 16th and paid the extra $120 to get both of them ASAP since everyone was saying that it’s taking forever.

Yeah we got them last week.

I almost feel like I paid the extra $120 unnecessarily.

I guess I’ll never know.

Disasters Ruin Everything

I have some friends who are actually bridge inspectors for the State of Tennessee. The ongoing joke is that they don’t do very much. We often say that their day involves them driving out to a bridge, looking at it, and saying, “Yeap, it’s a bridge” before heading back to the office for a rousing game of solitaire.

I don’t guess our joke about them not working very hard is funny anymore.
