During an instant message conversation a friend of mine at work pointed out how silly the term lol (laughing out loud) really is. She thought it would be better if it was lqtm (laughing quietly to myself). Her observation was that while yes you may technically be laughing out loud; you’re more than likely sitting there just chuckling to yourself.
What kind of weirdo sits at their desk and laughs and laughs and laughs for the whole world to hear?

Well, you have to admit, sometimes you really do just have to laugh out loud. I’m not a fan of “lol” at all, though.
