The Great Popcorn Fire of 06

The other afternoon I thought to myself, “some popcorn would make for a good snack”. After I went downstairs and got some, I threw it in the microwave for four minutes and started reading the bulletin board in the break room. After I had read all the job postings and promotions going on in the company, I went back to check on my popcorn.

It had only been in the microwave for three and a half minutes but I noticed that the popcorn was smoking. I figured that I had burnt it a little, but no big deal.

As the bag continued to smoke and showed no signs of stopping I pulled it open. It was then that I saw that the popcorn was on fire! I threw it in the sink and turned the water on.

By now the whole break room is covered in smoke and I notice that I can’t breath. I’m filling light headed. I needed to get out of there. So I stepped out into the hall to catch my breath and I see that the smoke is now coming out and filling up the HR department.

It wasn’t long before people were prairie dogging from their cubicles and coming out of their offices to see if everything was OK.

Luckily disaster was averted, but it was such an embarrassment going around letting people know that the building wasn’t on fire, it was just me burning a bag of popcorn.

Who would think that a few weeks later that the microwave still smells like burnt popcorn? Well, honestly it does, but I seriously think that there is something wrong with that microwave! I don’t think that it was your fault Blake.
